Whilst working as a Correctional Officer at Auckland Prison Karl noticed that there was a large amount of people incarcerated because of offences involving Drugs and Alcohol.

At the time, 2004, there was little, if any solutions to these problems, in a bid to help in the fight against Drugs and Alcohol in New Zealand Karl looked at how they could provide a service to the community.

After being contacted by a colleague who was having issues with drugs at a workplace they started on-site workplace Drug screening.

Quite quickly the company focused on workplace drug testing. Karl become co-founding director and Chairman for several years, as well as having a hands on role as General Manager of the Auckland branch, this become the largest in New Zealand and was where process and procedures were developed. This then become the franchise model and soon expanded overseas.

Karl has since pushed the boundaries in the industry by starting WorkCare, still looking at ways to improve and develop the standard within the industry.

Karl has become a great supporter of the work being done by organisations working with youth and schools and would often offer my services to help in any way we could. As well after seeing what a positive effect drug and alcohol education has had in the workplace and community, this has now become WorkCares passion to help educate and reduce harm in the workplace, community and youth, never forgetting why he was first involved with the industry.
