At the beginning of 2018 we decided to implement Drug & Alcohol testing for all our staff. Our reasoning behind this was with the new Health & Safety legislation we wanted to make sure as Directors we had done everything possible to provide a safe work environment for our employees.
My initial contact with Nicky was great and she helped point us in the right direction to make sure we were doing everything that was legally required by us to start random testing.

The lead up to the start of our programme we did the following:

  • Training for our management team – Provided by Workcare
  • Training / Information sessions with our staff – Provided by Workcare
  • Legal team checking our current contracts & advising the legal process if we had anybody who failed testing once it was implemented

Once we had everything in order we started our random testing in May 2018. Unfortunately, with our initial test, we had a few casualties out of a team of 15 employees we had 4 people who failed their test. To be honest we were very worried about how we were going to get all our work out the door with several members of our team not able to work.
The changes that have occurred since starting has been quite astounding and have proved to us that our decision to start the testing was in the best interest not only for our employees but our company as well.

The following changes have happened:

  • Our production levels are higher with less staff
  • Our team interactive with each other in a really positive way
  • A significant drop in production errors are now being made
  • Everyone is on board and pleased we have a drug/alcohol free environment
  • Our clients have noticed a difference

After being so nervous about implementing the testing the only regret we now have is that we did not start it earlier. Workcare have been absolutely amazing and their staff are so friendly and professional they put our employees at ease.
We cannot recommend Workcare and it’s wonderful team enough!
